Julia Garner Re-Confirms Role as Madonna in Revived Biopic, Now Reimagined as Netflix Limited Series

After Universal scrapped the project in 2023, Madonna’s life story is back on track as a Netflix limited series, with Garner still set to play the Queen of Pop.

Julia Garner, best known for her Emmy-winning turn in Ozark and her recent role in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, has once again confirmed that she will portray Madonna in the long-anticipated biographical project.

In a recent interview, Garner said, “I can’t say too much about it, but yes, it’s a work in progress.”

When it comes to Madonna’s music, Garner admitted she’s spoiled for choice. She highlighted “Borderline” and “Papa Don’t Preach” as her top favorites but also praised “Burning Up,” Confessions on a Dance Floor, “Vogue,” and “Ray of Light.”

Garner also revisited her intense audition process, recalling how she had to learn choreography and perform in front of Madonna herself—despite not being a trained dancer. “I had to convince her I could dance and sing. My mindset was, ‘What would Madonna do?’ So I owned it. I thought, you can take it or leave it, but if I leave, that’s on you.”
