Anil Kapoor Marks 25 Years of Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Recalls How Aishwarya Nearly Quit and Pays Tribute to Satish Kaushik
The actor shared a nostalgic post celebrating the milestone, opening up about Aishwarya Rai’s hesitation, Satish Kaushik’s support, and the film’s enduring legacy.

Veteran actor Anil Kapoor celebrated the 25th anniversary of his 2000 hit Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai on August 24, 2025, with a heartfelt Instagram post. Sharing a collage of memorable stills from the film, Kapoor paid tribute to his late friend and director Satish Kaushik, while also recalling the unique journey of bringing the story to life.
In his post, Kapoor remembered how Aishwarya Rai Bachchan became a part of the project. He revealed that during the shoot of Taal, he was struck by her remarkable talent and suggested her name to producer Naidu Saab and Satish Kaushik. Though there were initial doubts, Satish was convinced once he saw Aishwarya’s work on set.
The actor also shared a dramatic behind-the-scenes moment. Just before filming began, Aishwarya had serious concerns and almost decided to walk away from the project. Determined not to lose her, Kapoor and Satish personally visited her home and had a heartfelt conversation. Thankfully, she agreed to stay, and Kapoor credited her for delivering a phenomenal performance that contributed to the film’s commercial and critical success.
Released on August 24, 2000, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai stood out in mainstream Bollywood cinema for addressing sensitive issues like sexual assault, trauma, and single parenthood, while weaving them into a romantic drama. Aishwarya played Preeti, a survivor struggling to rebuild her life, while Kapoor portrayed Avinash, a compassionate man who supports her through her journey. The film also featured Sonali Bendre and Satish Kaushik in important roles.
Kapoor’s tribute was tinged with both pride and loss, as he fondly remembered his 35-year-long friendship with Satish Kaushik, who passed away in 2023. “My heart is filled with memories of my dearest friend Satish Kaushik,” he wrote, adding that the magic they created together continues to live on through the film.
Even after two and a half decades, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai remains a defining romantic drama of its era, remembered for its emotional depth, memorable performances, and the boldness of its subject matter.
