Erin Reagan Returns: Bridget Moynahan to Guest Star and Direct in ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff ‘Boston Blue’
Bridget Moynahan joins Donnie Wahlberg in the CBS spinoff ‘Boston Blue’ as Erin Reagan, while also stepping behind the camera to direct an episode of the new crime drama.

CBS is making sure “Blue Bloods” fans don’t feel too blue after the show’s emotional finale. Bridget Moynahan, who portrayed Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan for 14 seasons on the hit series, is officially set to appear in its upcoming spinoff, Boston Blue. Not only will Moynahan reprise her fan-favorite role, but she will also direct an episode of the new show’s debut season.
The network confirmed on Friday that Moynahan will make a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of Boston Blue, which centers on Donnie Wahlberg’s character Danny Reagan. The storyline picks up with Danny transferring from the NYPD to join the Boston Police Department, where he partners with Detective Lena Silver—played by The Walking Dead and Star Trek: Discovery alum Sonequa Martin-Green.
Moynahan isn’t new to the director’s chair either. She previously helmed several episodes of Blue Bloods, and her return to the franchise as both actor and director strengthens the connection between the original and its successor.
The ensemble cast of Boston Blue includes Maggie Lawson (Psych) as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner (Black-ish) as Jonah Silver, Gloria Reuben (ER) as Mae Silver, and Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters, Oz) as Reverend Peters. The series will follow Danny Reagan’s adjustment to life in Boston, teaming up with Lena Silver—who comes from a prestigious law enforcement family—to tackle new challenges and crimes.
The show is produced by CBS Studios in partnership with Jerry Bruckheimer Television. The creative team includes showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis (L.A.’s Finest), along with executive producers Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Donnie Wahlberg himself. Paramount Global Content Distribution will handle international distribution.
Bridget Moynahan’s career took off with a recurring role in Sex and the City and a breakout film role in Coyote Ugly. Over the years, she’s starred in high-profile projects including The Sum of All Fears, The Recruit, I, Robot, and the John Wick franchise. Her 14-year run on Blue Bloods solidified her as a television staple.
Wahlberg took to social media on Friday to share the news of Moynahan’s return, adding even more excitement for long-time Blue Bloods fans eager to see familiar faces in the franchise’s next chapter.
