Intro
Ajay Devgn is back as the stoic and fearless IRS officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. This time, he’s up against a charismatic but corrupt political heavyweight played by Riteish Deshmukh. With Vaani Kapoor replacing Ileana D’Cruz as Patnaik’s wife and a solid supporting cast including Saurabh Shukla and Supriya Pathak, Raid 2 attempts to scale new heights in the realm of patriotic thrillers. But does it succeed?
Plot
Raid 2 follows Amay Patnaik’s 75th raid, this time targeting the seemingly untouchable Dada Manohar Bhai (Riteish Deshmukh), a political figure with a spotless public image but a murky private empire. What begins as a routine investigation turns into a web of deception, pressure, and moral conflict—especially when Patnaik finds no illegal evidence. The film then explores whether the truth will prevail or be buried under influence and manipulation.

Performance & Direction
Ajay Devgn brings his signature calm intensity to the role, perfectly portraying the unwavering moral compass of Patnaik. Riteish Deshmukh is a pleasant surprise—layered, menacing, and never over-the-top. Vaani Kapoor doesn’t get much screen time but fills in well as a supportive spouse.
Raj Kumar Gupta’s direction hits emotional highs, especially in the confrontation scenes, but stumbles in maintaining momentum. His eye for cinematic frames is impressive, but the storytelling doesn’t always keep up. His transition from a niche filmmaker to a mainstream voice is commendable, though not flawless here.
What Works
Ajay Devgn’s rock-solid performance
Riteish Deshmukh’s impressive turn as the antagonist
Cinematography that captures the gravity of raid sequences
Amit Trivedi’s evocative background score
Emotional beats, especially in the second half
What Doesn’t
A sluggish and predictable first half
Over-reliance on music to fill narrative gaps
Uninspired screenplay that lacks the punch of the original
Editing issues that affect pacing
An underwhelming climax that fizzles out

Final Words
Raid 2 tries to replicate the intensity of the first film, but stumbles in pacing and execution. While the performances—especially by Devgn and Deshmukh—keep things afloat, the film doesn’t fully capitalize on its potential. Still, it offers enough drama and action to satisfy fans of the genre, even if it doesn’t leave a lasting impact like its predecessor.
