Chris Pratt Returns as Garfield in Sequel to Hit Animated Film
After the first film’s $260M global success, Alcon and Sony are reuniting for a new Garfield adventure with Pratt reprising his voice role, and more star-studded surprises on the way.
Chris Pratt is officially back to voice the world’s favorite lasagna-loving feline in the sequel to The Garfield Movie. Alcon Entertainment has confirmed the development of a follow-up to the 2024 animated hit, with Sony Pictures once again handling global distribution (excluding China).
The original film, which premiered in May 2024, became a surprise box-office success, raking in over $260 million worldwide. Directed by Mark Dindal, it featured a star-studded voice cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, and even Snoop Dogg. While Dindal’s return hasn’t been confirmed yet, Alcon is currently in talks with several writers and directors to shape the sequel. Additional casting announcements are expected soon.
Alcon continues its partnership with Jim Davis, the creator of the iconic Garfield comic strip, who will serve as an executive producer alongside Bridget McMeel from Amuse. Davis’s creation, first published in 1978, remains one of the most beloved comic strips of all time, chronicling the sarcastic adventures of Garfield, his owner Jon Arbuckle, and the loyal dog Odie.
Chris Pratt, who brought a fresh voice to Garfield in the original, adds this project to a growing list of animated blockbusters. He recently voiced Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and starred in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Coming up, Pratt will lead in Mercy for Amazon MGM and Way of the Warrior Kid for Apple and Skydance.
With its winning mix of nostalgia, humor, and all-star voice talent, the Garfield sequel is poised to keep audiences purring for more.
