Aamir Khan Confirms Superhero Project with Lokesh Kanagaraj, Shuts Down PK 2 Rumours

While denying a PK sequel, Aamir teases a grand action film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, updates on the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic, and shares his long-held dreams for Mahabharat.

Looks like fans waiting for PK 2 will have to put those hopes on hold—Aamir Khan has officially shut down the buzz surrounding a sequel to his 2014 blockbuster. But he’s not stepping away from ambitious cinema. In fact, the actor has revealed an unexpected and massive collaboration that has Bollywood and South Indian film fans equally excited.

In a recent media interaction, Aamir told Bollywood Hungama, “PK 2 is a rumour. I don’t know anything about it.” Instead, he dropped a much bigger bombshell: a superhero film with Tamil cinema’s action maverick Lokesh Kanagaraj, the man behind Vikram, Kaithi, and Leo. “Lokesh and I are working on a film. It belongs to the superhero genre. It’s a big-scale action film and will go on floors in the second half of 2026,” he confirmed.

Sources say Lokesh is already working with his trusted team of writers to shape the initial concept into a full-fledged script. Once the first draft is ready, it will be presented to Aamir for approval. While the project is still in its early stages, the buzz around it is undeniable—and if Aamir gives the green light, production could begin by mid-2026.

This unexpected Bollywood-meets-Kollywood partnership could be one of the biggest cinematic collaborations in years.

That’s not all Aamir has in the pipeline. The Laal Singh Chaddha actor is also collaborating with PK director Rajkumar Hirani on a biopic about Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema. “The Dadasaheb Phalke film is definitely being made. Raju and I are working on it,” Aamir confirmed. The film is expected to be an emotional and historical tribute to the man who started it all.

Then there’s Mahabharat, the dream project that’s lived in Aamir’s heart for over two decades. Talking about it, he said, “When you are making Mahabharat, you are not making a film. Aap yagna karne nikal rahe ho. You need to prepare, which I am trying to do.” While the project hasn’t officially taken off yet, Aamir suggested that the groundwork has begun, though there’s still a long journey ahead.

Meanwhile, fans won’t have to wait too long to see Aamir back on screen—Sitaare Zameen Par is all set to release on June 20.

And when asked about potential sequels to his older hits, Aamir said 3 Idiots, Dil Chahta Hai, and Sarfarosh could all work. He even joked about a Dil Chahta Hai sequel where the trio goes through mid-life crises and therapy—a tongue-in-cheek nod to how far they’ve come.
