David Lim Criticizes ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Spinoff for Overlooking Original Cast Contributions
Following the abrupt announcement of ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ featuring only Shemar Moore, David Lim expresses disappointment over the lack of recognition for the original ensemble that shaped the series.

David Lim, known for his portrayal of Officer Victor Tan throughout all eight seasons of CBS’s “S.W.A.T.,” has voiced his discontent regarding the newly announced spinoff, “S.W.A.T. Exiles.” The spinoff, which was greenlit shortly after the original series concluded, features Shemar Moore reprising his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson but excludes other original cast members.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lim shared his feelings about the spinoff’s rollout, stating, “I’d be lying if I said the rollout of the new spinoff didn’t sting.” He emphasized the lack of acknowledgment for the ensemble that contributed to the show’s success over its eight-season run. Lim highlighted the camaraderie and team spirit that defined the original series, expressing that the announcement felt like the original cast was “brushed aside” with little recognition for their contributions.

Shemar Moore, addressing the spinoff’s direction, likened his role to that of a quarterback in football, stating, “That’s my family for life. Just like in sports, Tom Brady might be the quarterback, but people get traded… but the teams keep on pushing with their quarterback and I’m that guy.”
Despite the disappointment, Lim expressed gratitude for the years spent with the series and appreciation for the fans. He acknowledged the show’s impact and the strong bonds formed among the cast and crew. Lim concluded by stating, “We had a magical run and went out on a high note with those final two episodes.”
“S.W.A.T. Exiles” is set to explore a new chapter with Hondo leading a team of young recruits. While Moore is the only confirmed returning cast member, Sony Pictures TV President Katherine Pope hinted that additional favorite characters from the original series might appear in the spinoff, maintaining the show’s universe.
The original “S.W.A.T.” series concluded its eighth and final season on May 16, 2025, after facing multiple cancellations and revivals throughout its run.
