From playful rehearsals to heartfelt gestures, actress Priyamani shares cherished memories of working alongside Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Chennai Express and Jawan.

In a candid conversation with Humans of Bombay, National Award-winning actress Priyamani opened up about her memorable experiences collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan, offering fans a glimpse into the camaraderie they shared on and off the screen.
Their professional journey began with the chartbuster “One Two Three Four” from Chennai Express. Priyamani recalled how Shah Rukh, unfamiliar with the South Indian dance style, earnestly sought her guidance. “He still says, ‘She’s my dance teacher,’” she shared, emphasizing his humility and dedication. Despite his superstar status, Shah Rukh would rehearse tirelessly, often staying back after shoots to perfect his moves.
Their bond deepened during the filming of Jawan, particularly during the energetic “Zinda Banda” sequence. Initially positioned behind Shah Rukh in the choreography, Priyamani was surprised when he insisted she stand beside him. “He told director Atlee and choreographer Shobi Master, ‘She is my dance teacher from Chennai Express. I want her next to me,’” she recounted. Throughout the shoot, Shah Rukh frequently turned to her for dance cues, showcasing his respect for her expertise.
Beyond the dance floor, Priyamani fondly remembered lighter moments, such as playing Kaun Banega Crorepati on Shah Rukh’s iPad between takes. “He gave me Rs 200 because my answers were right,” she laughed, cherishing the token of their playful interaction.
Reflecting on her time with Shah Rukh Khan, Priyamani expressed admiration for his warmth and professionalism. “He’s one of the biggest superstars we have, yet he’s so down-to-earth,” she noted. Their shared experiences have left an indelible mark on her, and she hopes for future collaborations. “I’ll manifest it right here, right now,” she said with a smile.
