Kesari Chapter 2: Akshay Kumar Leads Riveting Courtroom Drama on Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Releasing April 18, the historical film stars R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday, portraying the legal battle led by C. Sankaran Nair against British colonial rule.

Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh marks Akshay Kumar’s return to historical cinema, portraying the courageous barrister C. Sankaran Nair. The film delves into Nair’s legal confrontation with the British Raj following the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, this courtroom drama also features R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles.

Inspired by Raghu and Pushpa Palat’s book, The Case That Shook the Empire, the narrative centers on the 1924 libel suit filed by Michael O’Dwyer against Nair, who had publicly condemned O’Dwyer’s role in the massacre. The film aims to shed light on this significant yet often overlooked chapter of India’s struggle for independence.

Originally slated for a March release, the film is now set to premiere on April 18, 2025, coinciding with Good Friday. Produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, the movie is anticipated to resonate with audiences across India.

Early screenings have garnered positive reactions. Lawyer and politician Charu Pragya praised the film, stating, “Watching the screening of #KesariChapter2, halfway through the movie and I didn’t even blink in the first half! INCREDIBLE! Take a bow @akshaykumar. Your finest yet!” Actor Rana Daggubati also lauded the film, describing it as a “powerful, important film that stands tall and stays deep with the Indian in you.”

With its compelling storytelling and strong performances, Kesari Chapter 2 is poised to be a significant cinematic exploration of a pivotal moment in Indian history.
