Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Talks for New Film Directed by David Fincher

Netflix to Produce Tarantino-Penned Project Inspired by ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’

Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are in discussions to reprise their roles as Cliff Booth and Rick Dalton in an upcoming film directed by David Fincher. This project, penned by Quentin Tarantino, is set to be produced by Netflix and may begin filming by late summer. While not a direct sequel to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ the film draws inspiration from it, offering a fresh narrative involving the beloved characters. The Playlist first reported on the film.

This development follows Tarantino’s decision to shelve ‘The Movie Critic,’ a 1970s-set project that was intended to be his tenth and final film. The story was to focus on a movie reviewer for a pornographic magazine and potentially feature Pitt returning as Booth. After continuous rewrites and delays, Tarantino abandoned the project in April 2024.

According to reports, Pitt was intrigued by aspects of the script and his character’s role. He approached Tarantino about the possibility of another director taking the helm. Tarantino was open to the idea, depending on the director. Pitt then brought Fincher on board, with whom he has collaborated on films like ‘Se7en,’ ‘Fight Club,’ and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.’ Tarantino approved, leading to the project’s acquisition by Netflix, where Fincher has a first-look deal.

DiCaprio’s involvement remains uncertain. He is currently in talks to star in an Evel Knievel biopic for Paramount and is considering a Martin Scorsese project. The extent of his role in the new film is yet to be determined.

Details about the plot and how it connects to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ are being kept under wraps. The film industry eagerly anticipates this high-profile collaboration, which promises to bring together some of Hollywood’s most esteemed talents.
