Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey Shifts Release Date to Fall 2025

Kogonada’s star-studded adventure drama moves from May to September, setting up a box office clash with Universal’s Him and James L. Brooks’ Ella McCay.

Sony Pictures’ highly anticipated film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, is now scheduled to hit theaters on September 19, 2025—four months later than its original release date of May 9.

The film, directed by the critically acclaimed Kogonada (After Yang, Columbus), promises a unique cinematic experience, with a script penned by Seth Reiss, known for co-writing the dark comedy The Menu. Joining Robbie and Farrell in the ensemble cast are Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater.

By shifting to September, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey now enters a competitive fall release window. It will share its debut weekend with Universal Pictures’ horror thriller Him, starring Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers, as well as James L. Brooks’ highly awaited drama Ella McCay, featuring Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson, and Ayo Edebiri.

Had the film stuck with its initial May date, it would have gone up against A24’s Friendship, starring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson, and the second weekend of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts. The new release date gives Kogonada’s film a better shot at standing out in a crowded marketplace.

The Big Bold Beautiful Journey marks Margot Robbie’s first feature film release as an actor since her blockbuster success with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in 2023. That same summer, she also appeared in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City. As for Colin Farrell, he’s coming off his acclaimed turn as Oswald Cobblepot in HBO’s The Penguin and his Oscar-nominated performance in The Banshees of Inisherin.

With a celebrated director, a high-profile cast, and an intriguing title, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is one to watch this awards season.
