Jennifer Coolidge and Pete Davidson Share Mutual Admiration on ‘Riff Raff’ Set

Co-stars describe each other as ‘unpredictable’ and ‘a unicorn’ during the filming of the crime comedy

Jennifer Coolidge and Pete Davidson recently reflected on their collaborative experience during the filming of the crime comedy Riff Raff, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and was released in theaters on February 28, 2025. Directed by Dito Montiel, the film features a star-studded cast including Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, and Bill Murray.

In an interview with People, Coolidge recounted a memorable incident that highlighted Davidson’s unpredictable nature. On a particularly cold day during the winter shoot, she was surprised to see Davidson arrive on set in a Rolls-Royce, a vehicle that stood out in the modest neighborhood where they were filming. She remarked, “I remember one day it was freezing… and then this Rolls-Royce pulls up. And I was like, ‘Who’s that? It must be the owner of the house, right?’ And then it’s Pete Davidson in his Rolls-Royce.” This unexpected entrance led her to conclude that Davidson is “one of the most unpredictable people I’ve ever met.”

Davidson, in turn, expressed high praise for Coolidge during a conversation with Access Hollywood. He described her as “amazing” to work with and likened her to a mythical creature, stating, “She’s like a unicorn. She’s exactly what she’s like onscreen. So … —I describe her as a unicorn. … .”

Riff Raff centers on Vincent (Ed Harris), a … life is disrupted when his ex-wife Ruth (Jennifer Coolidge), their son Rocco … ), and Rocco’s pregnant girlfriend … arrive unexpectedly at his vacation home. Vincent’s current wife, Sandy (Gabrielle Union), and her teenage son DJ (Miles J … ) are also present, leading to a tense family reunion. As buried secrets emerge, the family becomes entangled with gangster Leftie (Bill … associate Lonnie (Pete Davidson), propelling them into a contemporary criminal predicament.

Director Dito Montiel highlighted the unique dynamic between Davidson and Murray, expressing enthusiasm about their on-screen interactions. He noted that Davidson brought a distinctive presence to the film, reminiscent of a “John Cazale vibe,” and was eager to observe the chemistry between Davidson and Murray during their scenes together.

Riff Raff is currently playing in theaters nationwide.
