Boston Blue: Donnie Wahlberg Returns as Danny Reagan in New CBS Cop Drama

The ‘Blue Bloods’ universe expands with ‘Boston Blue,’ featuring Wahlberg’s character transitioning to the Boston Police Department.

CBS has officially announced the straight-to-series order of “Boston Blue” (working title), a new addition to the “Blue Bloods” franchise set for the 2025-2026 broadcast season. Donnie Wahlberg will reprise his role as Detective Danny Reagan, who transitions from the NYPD to the Boston Police Department. In his new role, Danny is partnered with Detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

The series is penned by writers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, known for their work on “S.W.A.T.” They will also serve as showrunners and executive producers, alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television, and Wahlberg himself. “Boston Blue” is produced by CBS Studios in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

The original “Blue Bloods” series concluded its 14-season run in December 2024, maintaining a devoted fan base throughout its tenure. The series finale featured Danny Reagan asking his longtime NYPD partner, Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), out on a date. The introduction of “Boston Blue” aims to continue the legacy of the Reagan family in a new city, exploring fresh dynamics and challenges within the Boston law enforcement landscape.

CBS is also exploring potential spinoffs for other popular series, including “FBI,” “The Equalizer,” and “The Neighborhood,” for the 2025-2026 season. This strategic expansion reflects the network’s commitment to building upon successful franchises and delivering compelling content to its audience.

“Boston Blue” is slated to premiere during the 2025-2026 broadcast season, promising to bring familiar characters into new scenarios, enriching the “Blue Bloods” universe with fresh storylines and settings.
