Anthony Mackie and Wyatt Russell Embrace New Costumes in Upcoming Marvel Films
Actors Reflect on Challenges of Previous Attire and Anticipate Improved Designs in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Thunderbolts’

Anthony Mackie and Wyatt Russell have expressed relief at leaving behind their previous costumes from “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” as they prepare for their roles in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films.
Mackie, set to make his cinematic debut as Captain America in “Captain America: Brave New World,” candidly discussed his aversion to the suit he donned in the Disney+ series. In an interview with IGN, he stated, “I told them that I was never wearing that [costume] again, dude. That was hard. With the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses, it was impossible. It was called a cowl. It was my worst nightmare. You can’t do anything.”

Similarly, Wyatt Russell, who portrayed John Walker in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” expressed dissatisfaction with his former costume. Discussing his role in the upcoming film “Thunderbolts,” Russell remarked, “Last time, I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think I looked very cool. [This time] they made my helmet not look like the end of a penis.”
“Thunderbolts,” scheduled for release on May 2, 2025, brings together a team of antiheroes, including Russell’s John Walker, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Both actors are looking forward to their new roles, anticipating that the updated costume designs will enhance their performances and comfort on set.
