Vijay Sethupathi Speaks Out on Industry Criticism Ahead of ‘Viduthalai Part 2’ Release

The Acclaimed Actor Addresses Box Office Pressures and Stays Focused on His Upcoming Sequel

Vijay Sethupathi is set to captivate audiences once again with Viduthalai Part 2, directed by the visionary Vetrimaaran, slated for release on December 20, 2024. As excitement builds, the actor made headlines with his candid response when asked about the underwhelming box office performance of high-profile films like Thalapathy Vijay’s The GOAT and Suriya’s Kanguva in Telugu states.

In an interview with The Great Andhra, Sethupathi was questioned about the lukewarm reception these big-budget films received. The Vikram actor, known for his straightforwardness, replied, “When I come for the promotion of my film, why should I talk about all this? Why should we talk about this?”

Addressing the challenges of the film industry, he added, “People have trolled me in the past too. Everyone who does a business hopes to find success in it. Be it a hit or a flop, people invested in it, hoping it would be a success. Even now, before we release a film, we show it to people. Every film, even my flop films, we screen to gauge the general opinion.”

The conversation came as Viduthalai Part 2, co-starring Soori, nears its highly anticipated release. The sequel follows the critically acclaimed Viduthalai Part 1 (2023), which revolved around a gripping investigation into a train derailment linked to an extremist political leader, portrayed by Sethupathi. The sequel promises to dive deeper into the crime-ridden narrative, uncovering hidden truths and exploring the leader’s intriguing backstory.

The film boasts a stellar cast, including Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, and Saravana Subbiah, all reprising their roles. Joining them are Manju Warrier, Kishore, Anurag Kashyap, and Bose Venkat, who add more depth to the sequel’s storyline.
