Kevin Feige Unveils Exciting Updates on Marvel’s Future at Disney APAC Showcase
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is brimming with excitement as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) gears up for its next big phase, featuring the much-anticipated debut of the Fantastic Four, the evolving role of the X-Men, and a stronger focus on Asia.
Speaking via live stream at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige teased Marvel’s upcoming projects, including The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to release next summer. Sporting a Fantastic Four-themed cap, Feige called the project a dream come true. “Finally, we’re bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU,” he said. “They wrap production next week, and their story will flow directly into the next Avengers movies.”
With an ensemble cast featuring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Julia Garner, The Fantastic Four will mark the start of Phase Six of the MCU, with Feige producing. This reboot has been years in the making, and fans can expect the team to take center stage in shaping Marvel’s future.
Thunderbolts and the X-Men Take the Spotlight
Feige also shared details about Thunderbolts, premiering in May 2025. Describing it as quintessentially Marvel, he praised its ensemble approach. “It’s about bringing characters from different corners of the MCU together,” he said, citing Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and David Harbour’s Red Guardian as key players.
As for the X-Men, Feige hinted at their gradual integration into the MCU, with Secret Wars playing a pivotal role. “We’re entering a new age of mutants,” he revealed, adding that longtime fans will recognize some familiar X-Men faces in the near future.
Deadpool, Wolverine, and Iconic Costumes
Reflecting on the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, Feige celebrated Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine, particularly his iconic yellow suit. “Seeing Hugh in the yellow costume gave me goosebumps,” he said. “It’s something we’ve dreamed about for 25 years.” He also praised Ryan Reynolds for introducing Disney’s first R-rated superhero movie, combining sharp humor with heart.
Marvel’s Growing Presence in Asia
Feige underscored the importance of Asia in Marvel’s expansion, both creatively and commercially. Highlighting Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 and The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Feige noted partnerships with animation studios in Japan and Korea. He also previewed new Marvel attractions coming to Disney parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Marvel’s global appeal continues to grow, with Feige emphasizing the influence of Asian pop culture on Marvel Comics, including an upcoming title, Deadpool: Samurai. “The future of Marvel in Asia is the future of Marvel in general,” he declared, signaling Marvel’s commitment to its global fanbase.
As the MCU gears up for its next chapter, it’s clear that Marvel’s ambitions are as vast and interconnected as the multiverse itself.
