Ayushmann Khurrana Reflects on Fatherhood: Breaking Generational Norms
From Strict Parenting to Empathy, the Star Opens Up About His Journey as a Dad

Ayushmann Khurrana, known for his bold choice of roles and unconventional storytelling, has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood with hits like Vicky Donor, Andhadhun, Bala, and Dream Girl. Over a decade-long career, he has not only entertained but also tackled pressing societal issues with films like Article 15 and Anek.
Married to filmmaker and writer Tahira Kashyap, Ayushmann became a father early in his career. Recently, on the Honestly Saying podcast, the actor shared insights into his journey as a parent and how it starkly contrasts with his own upbringing.
Reflecting on his childhood, Ayushmann described his father, P. Khurrana, a renowned astrologer and author, as a disciplinarian. “Mine was a dictator. Getting beaten with chappals, belts, etc., was par for the course,” he shared. Recalling a specific incident, Ayushmann revealed, “Once, my shirt smelled of cigarette smoke after a party. Even though I never smoked out of fear, I still got beaten up for it.”
As a father, Ayushmann consciously chose a different path. He and Tahira grew as parents alongside their daughter, embracing empathy and mutual learning. “Daughters teach you to be more empathetic,” he remarked, highlighting how fatherhood reshaped his perspective.
P. Khurrana, who passed away in May last year, left behind a legacy of books on astrology and palmistry, but it’s Ayushmann’s heartfelt reflections that showcase the personal growth behind his public persona.
