In a recent interview, her mother, Bhavana Panday, shared the unexpected moment when Ananya told her parents she wouldn’t be going to college after being selected for her debut film, a decision that initially left her family in disbelief.
Bhavana recounted to Entertainment Live that after finishing high school, Ananya was all set to start her studies in media and communication at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. The entire registration process was complete, and everyone assumed she was headed to college.
However, things took a turn when SOTY 2 director Puneet Malhotra, who was searching for a new face for the film, met Bhavana at a party and suggested Ananya try out for the role. Initially, Bhavana explained that her daughter was college-bound, but Puneet encouraged her to consider letting Ananya audition. After several conversations and a successful audition, Ananya landed the role, surprising everyone with her decision to pursue acting instead of her planned college path.
The news of Ananya’s choice not to attend college shocked her parents, as they had assumed the movie’s delay by a year meant she would still go to USC. Despite their surprise, Bhavana acknowledged that Ananya was resolute in her choice. The family ultimately respected her decision, recognizing her strong sense of direction and confidence in choosing the acting route.
Reflecting on the decision, Bhavana shared that they didn’t want to pressure Ananya into attending college, fearing she might later regret or blame them if her heart wasn’t fully in it. Bhavana noted that if Ananya had taken the college route, her life would look completely different, underscoring the transformative impact of this choice.
