Kangana Ranaut Slams Bollywood, Calling It a “Hopeless Place” That Sabotages Talent

The outspoken actress turned politician accuses Bollywood of jealousy and destructive practices, while also facing controversy over her upcoming political drama Emergency.

In a recent interview on The Bombay Journey with Mashable India, Bollywood star and politician Kangana Ranaut unleashed yet another critique of the film industry. Known for her strong opinions, Ranaut labeled Bollywood as a “hopeless place” filled with jealousy and accused industry insiders of systematically undermining talented newcomers.

“Bollywood is a hopeless place,” Ranaut said. “They are jealous of other talents, and if they find someone who is talented, they will run behind them and finish them, or they will spoil their career or boycott them.” According to Ranaut, the industry tends to elevate mediocrity, favoring those willing to conform over genuine talent. “Mediocre people just go along with everything. They become doormats because it’s convenient,” she added, criticizing the culture that rewards compliance over skill.

On the professional front, Ranaut is gearing up for the release of her ambitious political drama Emergency, which she has directed and produced. The film stars Ranaut alongside Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik. Ranaut will also reunite with R. Madhavan in an upcoming psychological thriller.

However, Emergency recently stirred controversy. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), called for a ban on the film, alleging it misrepresents Sikhs. In response, Ranaut urged viewers to approach the movie with an open mind. “I see my own mimicry all the time. So many people imitate me, but I’m not offended,” she stated, suggesting that satire and portrayal should not be grounds for offense.
