Shekhar Kapur Announces “Masoom 2” Sequel with Nostalgia and Destiny on His Side

With the script complete and shooting set for early 2025, Kapur reveals the surprising journey behind the project and teases an exciting new cast

Director Shekhar Kapur is set to revisit his 1983 classic Masoom with a long-awaited sequel, Masoom 2. In a recent interview with ANI, Kapur confirmed that the script is complete, and production is scheduled to kick off in February or March 2025. During his conversation, he shared an amusing, serendipitous tale about nearly losing the script on a flight, only to have it returned by a flight attendant with a note praising the original film. “It’s destiny,” Kapur reflected.

Kapur promises that while Masoom 2 will preserve the beloved essence of the original, it will introduce a fresh storyline, featuring actors like Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Bajpayee, and Kaveri. Reflecting on the experience, Kapur admitted, “Back then, I was completely new to the industry. I’m excited to revisit this story and see how I brought it to life the first time around.”

Kapur also touched on how creativity is transforming in the era of artificial intelligence, expressing excitement about the sequel’s potential in today’s evolving landscape.
