KGF Star Says Ravana’s Complexity Makes Him the Most Fascinating Role to Play

Bollywood is buzzing with excitement as Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana takes shape, bringing together a stellar cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita. The project recently made headlines when South Indian superstar Yash officially confirmed that he will portray the iconic antagonist, Ravana.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash revealed what drew him to the role. “Ravana is a very fascinating character,” he said. “I wouldn’t have taken on any other role in Ramayana. For me, Ravana’s layers and nuances make him the most exciting character to explore as an actor.” Yash added that he’s thrilled about the opportunity and hinted at bringing a unique interpretation to the legendary villain.

The KGF star shared that his involvement in the project came unexpectedly. While working on VFX for another film in the U.S., Yash met Namit Malhotra, head of visual effects giants DNEG and Prime Focus, who introduced him to the film. Malhotra asked if Yash would consider playing Ravana, which led to further discussions with director Nitesh Tiwari.

Sai Pallavi, a beloved actress from the South Indian film industry, was already cast as Sita when Yash joined the project. Yash praised the casting, saying it was a collective decision to bring actors from both northern and southern cinema together. “Having Sai Pallavi on board makes it special,” Yash noted, adding that the blend of talent was essential for the vision Tiwari wanted to achieve.

Though neither Ranbir Kapoor nor Nitesh Tiwari have publicly commented on the project, the film’s first-look images of Ranbir and Sai Pallavi went viral, building anticipation among fans. With Yash now officially on board, the expectations around the epic retelling of Ramayana are soaring.

Yash, who became a household name after the blockbuster success of KGF and its sequel, expressed immense excitement for his new venture. “As an actor, this is a dream role. The scope to present Ravana in a new way is enormous, and I hope audiences will connect with our vision.”
