Rajinikanth’s “Vettaiyan” Set for a Grand Release Amid Health Concerns and Low Telugu Hype
While the Tamil version enjoys a decent pre-release buzz, poor Telugu advance sales and Rajinikanth’s illness place the film’s success in the hands of word of mouth

Superstar Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated film Vettaiyan is all set for a grand release tomorrow in both Telugu and Tamil. However, due to Rajinikanth’s recent illness and ongoing recovery, promotional activities for the Telugu version have been minimal. This lack of promotion has resulted in sluggish advance ticket sales across the Telugu states, casting uncertainty on the film’s performance in the region. The film’s ultimate success is likely to hinge on positive word of mouth, which will be crucial for its box-office trajectory.
Vettaiyan is a big-budget venture featuring a star-studded cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Lyca Productions and directed by TJ Gnanavel, best known for helming Suriya’s acclaimed Jai Bhim. This social drama sees Rajinikanth in the role of a cop, further heightening expectations among his fanbase.
Rajinikanth attended the Tamil audio launch of Vettaiyan shortly before falling ill and being hospitalized. Despite this, pre-release sales in Tamil Nadu are faring much better, with special shows being granted by the government, reflecting a strong local buzz.
In Telugu, however, Vettaiyan faces stiff competition as Gopichand’s Viswam, Sudheer Babu’s Ma Nanna Superhero, and Suhas’s Janaka Aithe Ganaka are all set to release during the busy Dasara weekend. Bollywood star Alia Bhatt’s film Jigra is also releasing in both Telugu and Tamil, adding to the crowded marketplace.
