Triptii Dimri Opens Up About Navigating Fame, Criticism, and Romance Post-‘Animal’
From shedding tears over harsh reviews to embracing her romantic side inspired by Bollywood, Triptii Dimri shares her journey with vulnerability and charm.

Triptii Dimri, known for her powerful performances, has steadily built her acting portfolio since her debut in Poster Boys in 2017. However, it was her role in the 2023 action-thriller Animal that truly catapulted her into the national spotlight, earning her the title of the country’s “National Crush.” Despite the love and admiration that followed her portrayal of Zoya opposite Ranbir Kapoor, Dimri also faced some unexpected hurdles—including harsh reviews from a section of the audience, which took an emotional toll on her.
In a candid conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia on his popular YouTube channel, Triptii spoke about her early struggles as an actor, the overwhelming criticism she received for Animal, and how it affected her mentally. “I cried a lot for two to three days after reading some of the reviews,” the Qala actress revealed. She explained that she wasn’t used to the level of negativity directed at her. “Roti thi because dimaag khraab ho gaya tha ke kya likh rahe hain log (I cried because I couldn’t handle what people were writing).” She shared that some of the online comments were particularly harsh, making it difficult for her to cope initially.
Triptii’s sister offered her some perspective, advising her to own her journey, reminding her that she alone knows the efforts it took to reach where she is today. Reflecting on her sensitivity, Dimri explained that letting herself cry helped her release the trauma. “Sometimes you just need to let your body release the pain,” she said, adding that she felt much better after allowing herself to grieve.
Despite the criticism, Dimri acknowledged that being in the spotlight as a mainstream actress comes with its challenges. Before Animal, she felt more at peace and enjoyed greater freedom, but after the movie’s release, while she got more work, she also received more scrutiny. “There was no criticism before Animal,” she admitted. Yet, she remains grateful for the love she continues to receive from fans around the world.

Beyond her professional struggles, Triptii also delved into her personal life, sharing her thoughts on love and romance. The actress, who has been spotted with rumored boyfriend Sam Merchant, spoke about her romantic ideals, shaped by classic Bollywood films. She confessed her desire to experience a love like Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the 1993 rom-com Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, which remains her favorite romantic movie. According to Triptii, the innocence and purity of SRK’s portrayal of Sunil’s love for Anna represents “real romance.”
“Main filmon wali romantic hoon (I’m a movie-style romantic),” Triptii quipped, comparing herself to characters in the films she loves. She also likened herself to Uday Chopra’s character from Dhoom, explaining that she’s always been serious about her relationships. “Main Dhoom ki Uday Chopra hoon (I’m Uday Chopra from Dhoom),” she joked, noting that she often imagines how her future partner would fit in with her family. For Triptii, romance is about embracing each other’s flaws and growing together.
In a conversation that covered everything from career highs and lows to personal relationships, Triptii Dimri offered an honest glimpse into her life as one of Bollywood’s rising stars.
