Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’ Renewed for Season 3 Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

The hit thriller, produced by Shawn Ryan, will begin filming its third season later this year, with a winter 2025 release planned for season two.

Netflix is extending the action-packed thriller The Night Agent beyond its upcoming second season. The streaming giant has officially renewed the show for a third season, even before season two has made its debut. While Netflix hasn’t locked in a precise release date, season two is expected to arrive in winter 2025—slightly later than the timeline initially hinted at by co-CEO Ted Sarandos during an earlier earnings call.

Production for season three is slated to kick off later this year in Istanbul, before moving to New York in the new year.

Created by Shawn Ryan and produced by Sony Pictures Television, The Night Agent has proven to be a standout success for Netflix. Its first season made a significant impact, currently sitting at seventh place among Netflix’s top English-language series based on viewership within 13 weeks of its premiere. Nielsen also reported that it was the second-most-watched original streaming series in the U.S. in 2023.

Based on Matthew Quirk’s novel, the show’s first season follows Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), a low-level FBI agent stationed in the White House basement. Tasked with answering a phone that never rings, Peter’s mundane job takes a dramatic turn when a call draws him into a high-stakes conspiracy. Alongside tech CEO Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), he must navigate a dangerous plot that threatens national security.

Season two will see Peter further entangled in the covert world of Night Action, as his past heroics present him with the opportunity to officially join the mysterious organization. However, this promotion will thrust him deeper into a world where peril lurks at every turn, and trust is a rare commodity.

Shawn Ryan (known for SWAT and The Shield) continues as showrunner for the second season, alongside executive producers Marney Hochman, Paul Bernard, Munis Rashid, Guy Ferland, Seth Gordon, Julia Gunn, David Beaubaire, and the Project X Entertainment team of Paul Neinstein, William Sherak, Nicole Tossou, and James Vanderbilt.
