Zendaya Teases Euphoria’s Time Jump in Season 3: “It Will Be Fascinating to See”
As Euphoria Moves Beyond High School, Zendaya Hints at a New Chapter for Rue and the East Highland Crew
As Euphoria prepares to return for its highly anticipated third season, fans aren’t the only ones eager to see where the HBO series heads next. Emmy-winning star Zendaya, who plays the troubled Rue, recently shared her excitement and curiosity about the show’s upcoming direction.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly on The Awardist podcast, Zendaya reflected on the natural evolution of the show, admitting it’s time to move beyond the high school drama. “There’s only so much high school drama you can deal with,” she joked. “‘And then she cheats on her boyfriend again!'”
Although Zendaya couldn’t reveal many specifics about the new season—described by creator Sam Levinson as having a “film noir” vibe—she expressed her interest in seeing how the story unfolds. “I don’t actually know much about what is happening,” Zendaya said, adding that she’s especially intrigued by the upcoming time jump. “It will be fascinating to see these characters outside of the high school context and how everything they went through as kids impacts their adult lives. I’m excited to see how they navigate the much bigger world out there.”
Euphoria, loosely inspired by Levinson’s personal experiences with addiction, is set to begin production in January 2024 after multiple delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes and other setbacks, including the tragic death of cast member Angus Cloud.

While many stars like Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Colman Domingo have seen their careers flourish beyond the show, Euphoria remains a major priority for HBO. However, with busy schedules and new projects on the horizon for the cast, the logistics of future seasons may prove more challenging.
Produced in partnership with A24, Euphoria follows a group of teens in a fictional California town as they navigate relationships, drugs, and identity. The show’s second season concluded with a memorable meta finale, featuring a play within a show directed by Maude Apatow’s character, Lexi. Whether season 3 will be the final chapter remains to be seen, but with Zendaya and the rest of the cast, it’s certain to be an unforgettable one.
