Anne Hathaway Set to Return for Princess Diaries 3

Director Adele Lim Joins the Team for the Long-Awaited Sequel

Anne Hathaway has officially confirmed her return for Princess Diaries 3. The actress took to Instagram that director Adele Lim had signed on for the much-anticipated project. Hathaway shared a playful video, featuring flashbacks of her younger self as Mia Thermopolis, alongside Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse Renaldi, both delivering the iconic line, “Shut up!”

Lim, known for her work on Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), as well as her directorial debut Joy Ride (2023), brings her creative talents to the Princess Diaries sequel. Her past writing and producing credits also include One Tree Hill, Lethal Weapon, and Crazy Rich Asians, the latter based on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel.

Hathaway, fresh off recent roles in The Idea of You (2024) and Mother’s Instinct (2024), is set to take center stage once again in the beloved franchise. Fans will also see her reprise her role in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, which was confirmed earlier this year.

While other original cast members have yet to confirm their return, Debra Martin Chase will once again produce the film, alongside executive producers Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack. Flora Greeson is tasked with writing the screenplay for this highly anticipated third installment.

The Princess Diaries (2001) marked a pivotal moment in Hathaway’s career, with the second film, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, following in 2004. Although Julie Andrews has expressed uncertainty about her involvement in a third film, fans remain hopeful as they await further casting announcements.
