Jonathan Franzen’s “The Corrections” Eyes TV Adaptation, with Meryl Streep in Lead Role

CBS Studios Takes on the Ambitious Adaptation of the Acclaimed Novel, Reviving Previous Efforts for the Small Screen

Meryl Streep is set to headline a new adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections, marking another attempt to bring the celebrated 2001 novel to television. The project, produced by CBS Studios in partnership with wiip, will be adapted by Franzen himself. The story follows the complex dynamics of a Midwestern couple and their adult children as they navigate personal and familial challenges.

The production team includes Franzen, Mark Roybal from wiip, and Nicole Clemens, formerly of Paramount TV Studios, all of whom will serve as executive producers. CBS Studios plans to pitch the series soon.

This isn’t the first time The Corrections has been slated for television. In 2011, HBO ordered a pilot from filmmaker Noah Baumbach, with a star-studded cast featuring Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans, and Greta Gerwig. Scott Rudin, who had been developing the project as a film for nearly a decade, joined Baumbach and Franzen as executive producers.

Despite the high-profile cast and creative team, HBO ultimately decided not to move forward with the series in 2012. News of the latest development was first reported by Puck.
