Margaret Qualley Scores a Role in “Happy Gilmore 2” Thanks to Husband’s White Lie

The actress reveals her husband Jack Antonoff fibbed about her golfing skills to help her land a part in the sequel to her favorite movie

Margaret Qualley went to unusual lengths to secure a role in a film she holds dear. The actress recently shared that her husband, musician Jack Antonoff, “lied” to Adam Sandler about her golfing abilities to help her join the cast of Happy Gilmore 2. Qualley, a long-time fan of the original 1996 comedy, revealed that *Happy Gilmore* was her favorite movie growing up and that Sandler was her first celebrity crush.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Qualley recalled her eagerness to be involved in the sequel. “I saw they were making a *Happy Gilmore 2*, and I immediately emailed my agents, saying, ‘I’ll do anything—no part is too small. Please, I have to be part of this,’” she shared.

Fallon then revealed a humorous text exchange between Antonoff and Sandler, where Sandler asked, “Does your wife golf at all?” Antonoff responded with a confident, “Yeah, she’s actually good,” despite the fact that Qualley had never played a round of golf in her life.

“What a good husband,” Qualley joked. “And I can’t golf. He lied for the sake of the family. I’m terrible, actually.” While she did take a few lessons, she admitted her golfing skills haven’t exactly improved.

Despite her lack of expertise on the green, Qualley managed to land a small role in the film. “It’s a tiny part. I’m essentially deep background, but I can die happy now,” she said, describing her excitement over the opportunity.

Production on *Happy Gilmore 2* began earlier this month in New Jersey, with Sandler sharing a behind-the-scenes photo featuring his character’s iconic Boston Bruins hockey jersey. “It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun,” he teased in the post.

The sequel not only brings back Sandler but also includes returning cast members Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald. New faces in the cast include Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny, Benny Safdie, and golf legend Lee Trevino.
