Eric Stonestreet Still Hurts Over Axed “Modern Family” Spinoff

Actor Reveals ABC Rejected Planned Sequel Following Cameron, Mitchell, and Lily

“Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet recently opened up about a painful rejection that still stings. In a video interview with Graham Bensinger, the actor revealed that ABC had turned down a planned sequel series focusing on his character, Cameron Tucker, Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Mitchell Pritchett, and their daughter, Lily.

The spinoff, which had the backing of original “Modern Family” co-creator Chris Lloyd, would have followed the trio as they moved to Missouri for Cameron to pursue his dream of becoming a college football coach. Stonestreet expressed disappointment and hurt over the decision, stating that he and Ferguson felt as though they were being treated as “the old guys.”

Despite the setback, Stonestreet remains fond of his character and the show. He praised his chemistry with Ferguson and expressed a desire to reunite with the “Modern Family” cast for a Christmas special. While the door may be closed on the spinoff due to the passage of time, Stonestreet’s heartfelt words highlight the lasting impact of the series and the characters that fans loved.
