Sharvari Wagh Reflects on Almost Debuting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Her Rise in Bollywood
The actress opens up about her early career as an assistant director on Bajirao Mastani, her missed opportunity with Bhansali, and her current projects alongside Alia Bhatt.
Sharvari Wagh is making waves in Bollywood, with her recent successes in Munjya, Maharaj, and Vedaa. Currently, she is filming Alpha alongside Alia Bhatt, part of Yash Raj Films’ much-anticipated action franchise. But before her acting career took off, Wagh worked behind the scenes, notably as an assistant director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani.
In a recent chat with News18 Showsha, Wagh opened up about how her path could have been quite different. She revealed that she was initially set to make her acting debut with Bhansali’s production house. “I was supposed to do a film with Sanjay sir’s production house. I had auditioned for it and got shortlisted,” Wagh shared. Unfortunately, the project hit a snag. “We did a couple of workshops, but the film was paused due to technical reasons. They needed to rework the script,” she explained.
Rather than seeing the delay as a setback, Wagh seized the opportunity to join the team as an assistant director on Bajirao Mastani, which was already in production. “I asked if I could assist them. Bajirao Mastani was being filmed, and I really wanted to intern. They graciously offered me the chance,” she recalled, describing it as a valuable learning experience.
On the acting front, Wagh is now fully immersed in the filming of Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail. The film, slated for release in 2025, is part of YRF’s spy universe. Alia Bhatt is set to play a super-agent, joining the elite ranks of Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and Shah Rukh Khan’s characters. The two actresses recently wrapped the Kashmir schedule of the film and shared pictures from the set as they returned to Mumbai.
