Hilarie Burton Morgan Teases One Tree Hill Sequel: A New Chapter with a Female-Led Team

The beloved star opens up about working with women and how this fresh reboot offers a more empowering experience than before.

Hilarie Burton Morgan is offering an exciting glimpse into the upcoming One Tree Hill sequel, revealing how working with an all-female team has brought her a renewed sense of purpose. The actress, who played Peyton Sawyer on the original show, shared her thoughts with People magazine, reflecting on how this fresh take has already been more fulfilling than her earlier experience on the hit teen drama.

Speaking about the Netflix reboot, which will also feature her former co-star Sophia Bush, Burton Morgan highlighted the importance of a female-driven approach. “What I can say is that this time around, being able to work with a team of women and see these stories and characters through a female lens is something so vital to me,” she said. “Whether it’s a reboot, a brand-new show, or a different movie at this stage in my life, female teamwork is at the core of my success.”

The actress expressed excitement about collaborating with women she admires and loves. “I’m thrilled to team up with people I look up to and care about dearly. It’s the foundation of anything I’ve done that’s been successful,” she added.

Burton Morgan, who starred in One Tree Hill from 2003 to 2012, noted that she hopes the reboot will reflect the current phase of her life, which is vastly different from her early 20s. The sequel comes seven years after she and Bush, along with other cast and crew members, accused the show’s creator, Mark Schwahn, of sexual harassment. Although Schwahn has never publicly addressed the allegations, he was removed as showrunner from E!’s The Royals in 2017.

In addition to reprising their roles, Burton Morgan, Bush, and former co-star Danneel Ackles will also serve as executive producers for the sequel, promising a fresh, empowering take on the beloved series.
