My Lady Jane Loses Its Crown: Amazon Cancels Period Fantasy Drama
Short Reign for Shape-Shifting Queen

Amazon’s historical fantasy series, My Lady Jane, has met an untimely end. Just seven weeks after its full season drop, Prime Video has pulled the plug on the show, leaving fans reeling.
Based on the popular novel by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows, the series offered a unique blend of romance and fantasy, set against the backdrop of 16th century England. In this alternate reality, humans coexisted with shape-shifters, creating a world of intrigue and political upheaval. Emily Bader starred as the titular character, a young woman caught between her human identity and her growing empathy for the oppressed shape-shifters.
Despite critical acclaim, My Lady Jane failed to capture a wide audience. While the show’s blend of history, fantasy, and romance was praised by many, it seems it wasn’t enough to secure a second season. Nielsen ratings also failed to show significant viewership, ultimately leading to the show’s cancellation.
The series featured a star-studded cast including Edward Bluemel, Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper, and Jim Broadbent. Created by Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn, *My Lady Jane* was produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
While the news of the cancellation is undoubtedly disappointing for fans, the show’s legacy as a bold and imaginative series is likely to endure.
