Blood Ties: First Look at Dexter’s Twisted Family in “Dexter: Original Sin”

Showtime’s prequel series dives into the formative years of a young Dexter Morgan

Get ready for a new wave of blood splatter! Paramount+ and Showtime have unveiled first-look images for their highly anticipated Dexter prequel series, “Dexter: Original Sin.” The photos introduce viewers to a fresh-faced cast portraying the younger versions of the original show’s core characters.

This 10-episode thriller rewinds the clock 15 years before we met Michael C. Hall’s infamous Dexter. “Original Sin” will delve into the origin story of a younger Dexter, still grappling with his dark urges. Hall, who serves as an executive producer on the prequel, played the iconic serial killer on Showtime’s original “Dexter” series (2006-2013) and reprised the role for the 2021 limited series “Dexter: New Blood.”

Original “Dexter” showrunner Clyde Phillips returns to helm “Original Sin,” though a premiere date remains under wraps.

The series synopsis hints at a familiar conflict: “Set in vibrant 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he navigates the transition from college student to avenging angel. As his bloodlust intensifies, Dexter must learn to control his inner darkness. With the help of his adoptive father, Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter develops a Code – a set of rules designed to eliminate society’s undesirables while staying off the police radar. This becomes particularly challenging for Dexter as he embarks on a forensics internship at the very Miami Metro Police Department he’ll one day target.”

Rounding out the cast are familiar names playing younger versions of beloved characters from the original series, including Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt. Guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar joins the fray as Tanya Martin.

“Dexter: Original Sin” is executive produced by showrunner Clyde Phillips (“Dexter,” “Nurse Jackie”) and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Joining Phillips as executive producers are Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. The series is produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis, with Michael Lehmann serving as directing executive producer.
