Malhotra recently shared a surprising detail about the hit Netflix film “Maharaj.” During a press conference, Malhotra revealed that the antagonist role, ultimately played by Jaideep Ahlawat, was originally written for the late Irrfan Khan.

“There’s no one else who could embody this role better than him,” Malhotra said about Khan, according to Times of India. While Jaideep Ahlawat delivers a critically acclaimed performance, the director acknowledges the shoes he had to fill. Malhotra praised Ahlawat’s talent, calling him “one of the best actors we have in this country,” but admits the initial challenge of convincing him to take the part. Thankfully, audiences are recognizing Ahlawat’s talent, and the film is a hit!
