Sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” in Development

Original Writer Aline Brosh McKenna Returns to Pen Potential Follow-Up

Aline Brosh McKenna, the writer behind “The Devil Wears Prada,” is working on a potential sequel to the iconic 2006 film. Wendy Finerman, who produced the original movie, is also involved in this new project.

Although no official deals have been made, the idea of a follow-up to the beloved coming-of-age comedy has been circulating for some time. This year’s SAG Awards saw Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Anne Hathaway reunite on stage, fueling speculation.

Disney, which now owns the rights to the original film through its acquisition of Fox 2000, has not commented on the sequel. No agreements with the original cast have been finalized yet.

The 2006 movie, based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, follows Andy (Hathaway), a fresh journalism graduate who becomes the assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep), a character inspired by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Andy navigates the challenging world of high fashion with the help of her fellow assistant (Blunt). The film was a box office hit, grossing $326 million globally, and earned Streep an Oscar nomination.

Puck reported the sequel’s development and suggested a potential plot where Priestly remains at the helm of Runway magazine, now struggling with the financial challenges of modern publishing. Meanwhile, Blunt’s character is now an executive at a luxury brand that advertises with Runway.

Despite these developments, Hathaway expressed skepticism about a sequel during the promotion of her film “The Idea of You,” telling E! News, “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen.”
