Vin Diesel Revs Up for “Riddick: Furya” Return Amidst International Excitement

Diesel and Director Twohy Gear Up to Revisit Sci-Fi Franchise’s Origins

Vin Diesel is set to reprise his role as the enigmatic antihero Riddick in the upcoming installment of the sci-fi action franchise, “Riddick: Furya.” The eagerly anticipated project, announced in February 2023, is now accelerating towards its Aug. 26 filming commencement, with producers unveiling key details on Monday.

Diesel, who not only stars but also produces the film, reunites with David Twohy, the visionary director behind all previous entries in the franchise. “Furya” is poised to traverse various global locales, including Germany, Spain, and the U.K., promising an expansive cinematic experience.

The franchise’s inception in 2000 with “Pitch Black” marked Diesel’s emergence as a leading man, portraying a captured criminal navigating a perilous planet plagued by nocturnal predators. Despite its modest $23 million budget, the film garnered widespread acclaim. However, the subsequent 2004 sequel, “The Chronicles of Riddick,” with its ambitious scale and hefty budget exceeding $100 million, failed to replicate its predecessor’s success, leaving the franchise’s fate uncertain.

Undeterred, Diesel, in a shrewd move, acquired the rights to the franchise, subsequently reviving it with the 2013 release of “Riddick.” Returning to its roots as a gritty creature feature, the film reignited audience interest and set the stage for further exploration of Riddick’s universe.

In “Furya,” a project in development since 2014, Diesel and Twohy delve into Riddick’s origins as he embarks on a perilous journey to his long-forgotten home world. Here, amidst the remnants of a shattered civilization, Riddick encounters fellow Furyans locked in a struggle for survival against a formidable new adversary, revealing unexpected parallels between himself and his kin.

Fueling the project’s momentum are Diesel’s production endeavors under his One Race Films banner, alongside his partner and sister, Samantha Vincent. Collaborating with Thorsten Schumacher of Rocket Science and Lars Sylvest of Thank You Studios, the production promises to deliver a thrilling addition to the beloved franchise.

Rocket Science, spearheading international sales, has already secured cornerstone presales across numerous territories, underscoring the global anticipation for “Riddick: Furya.” With a stellar lineup of partners and a compelling narrative awaiting exploration, the stage is set for Riddick’s triumphant return to the silver screen.
