Epic ‘Masters of the Universe’ Saga Secures Release Date

Amazon MGM Sets June 2026 Premiere for Long-Awaited Live-Action Adaptation

After years of anticipation, the live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe is at last slated for a theatrical release. Amazon MGM has confirmed that the film, based on Mattel’s iconic franchise, will hit screens worldwide on June 5, 2026.

The storyline promises an enthralling journey, centered on a 10-year-old Prince Adam who finds himself stranded on Earth after a spaceship mishap, severed from his enchanted Power Sword which serves as his only connection to his home realm of Eternia. Nearly two decades later, Prince Adam embarks on a quest to reclaim his lost artifact, propelling him back into the cosmos to confront the nefarious Skeletor and defend his homeland. However, to stand against such formidable evil, Prince Adam must delve into the secrets of his own past and transform into He-Man, the ultimate champion of the Universe.

Guiding this cinematic spectacle is director Travis Knight, working alongside screenwriter Chris Butler. The production is shepherded by Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner, along with the seasoned producers from Escape Artists: Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.

Masters of the Universe has enjoyed a rich legacy since its inception in 1982, originating as a line of action figures before captivating audiences with the beloved animated series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, in 1983. The journey to the big screen has been a protracted one, with the project transitioning from Sony to Netflix before finding its home at Amazon MGM. Throughout its development, various filmmakers, including David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee, have contributed to shaping the vision, with the latter duo penning the initial draft for the Amazon MGM iteration.

Joining the ranks of anticipated releases in June 2026 are Toy Story 5 and a Universal production from the creative minds behind Everything Everywhere All at Once, known collectively as Daniels.
