Warner Bros Nears Major Deal for Avengelyne Film Adaptation

Margot Robbie Eyed to Star in Olivia Wilde-Directed Comic Book Movie

Warner Bros is on the brink of finalizing a lucrative seven-figure agreement for the film rights to Avengelyne—a popular comic book creation by Rob Liefeld, the mastermind behind Deadpool. Avengelyne follows the story of an angel battling the forces of darkness.

According to sources, negotiations are almost complete, with Margot Robbie reportedly in consideration to portray the titular character, pending script approval. The talented Olivia Wilde is set to direct, while Tony McNamara, known for his work on “Poor Things,” will pen the screenplay. The project will be produced by LuckyChap, the production company co-founded by Robbie, along with Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon through their Genre banner.

The Avengelyne deal marks another significant acquisition for Warner Bros, following their recent 7-figure agreement for a movie centered on Chris Farley, starring Paul Walter Hauser and directed by Josh Gad. However, the Avengelyne deal is said to be even more substantial.

LuckyChap’s recent success with “Barbie,” along with Wilde’s directorial achievements in “Don’t Worry Darling” and “Booksmart,” adds to the anticipation surrounding this project.

Avengelyne, described as a fallen angel banished from heaven for questioning God’s love for humanity, possesses formidable strength and unique abilities. Tasked with battling demons on Earth, she emerges as humanity’s last hope in an impending Armageddon.

Simon Kinberg, who produced the Deadpool films based on Liefeld’s comics, played a pivotal role in bringing the Avengelyne project to fruition. Kinberg’s collaboration with Robbie, Wilde, and McNamara aims to capture the same edgy sensibility seen in their previous works.

Rob Liefeld, the creator behind Avengelyne, has often emphasized the character’s relatable journey of redemption. He describes her as a figure navigating a foreign world, seeking to save both herself and mankind—a storyline that resonates deeply with audiences.
