Hilarious Highwire: Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston Team Up for Roku Channel Comedy!

Emmy-winning duo set to reinvent 1950s detective drama in uproarious new series.

In a groundbreaking move announced at Roku’s newfronts presentation, Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston are teaming up to breathe new life into a classic yet short-lived detective series from the late 1950s. The comedic genius of Burrell will take center stage in the six-episode series, with Cranston joining as an executive producer.

Tightrope!, a forgotten gem from the television archives, originally aired for just one season on CBS from 1959 to 1960. Starring Mike Connors as an undercover police officer diving into the depths of criminal underworlds, the show is now set for a radical transformation. Roku’s adaptation promises a slapstick twist, with Burrell stepping into the role of a quirky lone wolf detective crisscrossing cities in pursuit of both criminals and his elusive lost love.

Cranston, sharing his inspiration for the project, remarked, “I was inspired by the on-the-nose old drama series of the ‘50s to mess with the whole thing and create a new version of a lunatic comedy, never seen before in a TV series.” Describing Tightrope! as a product of a feverish imagination, he added, “Tightrope! is a result of a fever dream, and conceived over a bowl of chili at Chasen’s, savvy?”

Behind the scenes, Village Roadshow Television, along with Cranston’s Moonshot Entertainment and Burrell’s Blue Whale Productions, will be bringing this comedic caper to life. Charlie Collier, president of Roku Media, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We’re thrilled to have Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston join us at Roku for this imaginative, funny series.” He continued, “What a joy to welcome Ty and Bryan to the Roku Originals lineup, along with the Moonshot and Desert Whale teams and our partners at Village Roadshow Television. We’re pleased to add Tightrope! to our growing originals slate to delight our audiences.”

Burrell, echoing the sentiment, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m so thrilled to be working with Bryan and Roku Originals on this bonkers (in the best way) idea of a show.”

The creative minds behind the scenes include Cranston and James Degus from Moonshot Entertainment, along with Burrell, who will also serve as executive producers. Adam Small and Fax Bahr, known for their work on Mad TV, are set to executive produce and direct.

In addition to his role in Tightrope!, Burrell is also taking on the lead and executive producer duties in Forgive and Forget, a multicamera comedy pilot at ABC, showcasing his versatility and comedic prowess in the television landscape.
