Parineeti Chopra’s Dramatic Transformation for “Amar Singh Chamkila” Earns Rave Reviews

The actress opens up about her 16 kg weight gain journey and the sacrifices made for her role as Amarjot Kaur

In the realm of cinematic transformations, Parineeti Chopra’s dedication to her craft shines through as she undertook a remarkable physical metamorphosis for her role as Amarjot Kaur in the Netflix film “Amar Singh Chamkila.” Garnering accolades from critics and fans alike, Chopra’s portrayal has not only captivated audiences but also sparked discussions about the lengths actors go to for their art.

In a recent interview with Raj Shamami, Chopra delved into the intricate process of her weight gain, shedding light on the challenges she faced during this transformative journey. “It took me 6 months almost,” she revealed, recounting the arduous path she embarked on to embody her character authentically. “So it was 6 months of very unhealthy eating. My sleep got affected. I could not sleep properly. My mood got affected because after a couple of months when you are not eating clean, it affects your mood, you feel low.”

Chopra’s commitment to her role extended beyond just altering her diet; it encompassed a significant shift in her lifestyle and physical routine. “My stamina was zero. No workouts for 6 months, and this is me, who was doing weight training 4 times a week and cardio twice a week and I was at my prime at that time,” she shared. “Eating badly, drinking beverages that I don’t like. I don’t drink milkshakes and all these things. I was drinking all of those because very quickly (I wanted to gain). So, I used to look like myself. And I did not want to look like myself. I wanted to look like Amarjot ji. I had to. This was the project I had been waiting for, for 10 years of my life.”

Despite her unwavering determination, Chopra faced skepticism from within the industry, recalling a poignant encounter with a senior actor who cautioned her against jeopardizing her career. “I remember a very senior actor of mine,” she reminisced. “Maine unko btaya ki mai na iss picture ke liye 20 kilo mujhe put on karne hai. Aur unhone kaha, ‘Tu pagal hai. Tu apna career khatam kardegi. [I told him that I needed to put on 20 kilos for this movie. And he said, ‘You’re crazy. You’ll ruin your career.] Don’t do this to yourself.'”

Chopra’s journey serves as a testament to the dedication and sacrifices actors make in pursuit of their craft, reaffirming her status as a versatile performer willing to go to great lengths to bring characters to life on the silver screen.
