Colin Farrell Takes the Lead in a Riveting Tale of Chance and Redemption
Award-winning Actor Set to Star in a Compelling Netflix Feature Directed by Edward Berger

Colin Farrell’s schedule remains packed, as the acclaimed actor gears up to headline Edward Berger’s forthcoming project for Netflix.
Set to star in “The Ballad of a Small Player,” Farrell takes on the lead role in this adaptation of Lawrence Osborne’s novel from 2014. Directed by Berger, known for his work on “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and penned by Rowan Joffe, the film is scheduled to commence filming in Asia this summer.
“The Ballad of a Small Player” follows the journey of a high-stakes gambler grappling with debts and a murky past, while striving to maintain a low profile in Macau. Here, he crosses paths with someone who shares his experiences.
Producers on board include Berger for Nine Hours, Mike Goodridge for Good Chaos, and Matthew James Wilkinson for Stigma Films. Notably, “The Ballad of a Small Player” marks the inaugural feature under Berger’s exclusive arrangement with Netflix.
Having directed Netflix’s acclaimed 2022 film “All Quiet on the Western Front,” which received nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Berger is no stranger to critical acclaim. His next directorial venture, the thriller “Concave,” boasting a star-studded cast featuring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini, is slated for release in November under Focus Features.
Farrell, meanwhile, is currently captivating audiences on the Apple TV+ drama series “Sugar,” which premiered earlier this month. Following his Oscar-nominated performance in the 2022 film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Farrell’s future endeavors include the Max series “The Penguin,” reprising his role as the iconic DC Comics character from “The Batman,” and starring alongside Margot Robbie in “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” directed by Kogonada.
News of Farrell’s involvement in “The Ballad of a Small Player” was first reported by Deadline.
