Anticipated Sci-Fi Epic “Chronicles of Kalki: 2898” Faces Delay Amidst Electoral Season

Following the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the much-anticipated release of “Kalki 2898 AD” featuring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone has been postponed, leaving eager fans with a prolonged wait for its big-screen debut. Originally slated to hit theaters on May 9, a new release date for the film will be announced soon, pending an official statement from the producers regarding the delay.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, known for his directorial ventures “Yevade Subramanyam” and “Mahanati,” “Kalki 2898 AD” is a science fiction spectacle that also stars veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. Ashwin recently shed light on the project during an event at IIT Bombay, expressing his excitement for the film’s unique narrative.

“In India, the genre of science fiction remains relatively unexplored, particularly in comparison to other cinematic themes. With ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ we are delving into uncharted territory, presenting a futuristic world unlike anything seen before in Indian cinema,” Ashwin remarked. “This film transports viewers to a realm where our cities are reimagined in a future or dystopian setting, offering a fresh perspective that breaks away from the typical Western-centric narratives.”

Discussing the creative process behind the film, Ashwin elaborated on the pivotal role of technological advancements. “The storyline of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is situated amidst the transformative era marked by the advent of Midjourney and Chat GPT. These innovations significantly influenced our approach to storytelling, enabling seamless integration of text-to-image and image-to-text generation techniques,” he explained.

As anticipation builds for the film’s release, the focus shifts to the upcoming general elections in India. With the first phase scheduled for April 19 and the vote count slated for June 4, the cinematic landscape awaits the outcome, which may further impact the film’s revised release schedule.
