Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Launches Legally Blonde TV Spinoff Series
Witherspoon’s production company collaborates with Amazon MGM Studios to expand the iconic film franchise into television.

Reese Witherspoon is set to revisit one of her most iconic roles, this time bringing it to the small screen. Witherspoon, along with her production company Hello Sunshine, is spearheading the development of a Legally Blonde spinoff TV series, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, sources revealed to Deadline.
The spinoff, which is currently in active development, has already attracted top-tier talent. Gossip Girl developers and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are on board to write and executive produce the series. The premise of the project is being kept tightly under wraps, but it promises to capture the essence of the beloved Legally Blonde franchise.
Joining forces with Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine on this venture is the renowned Legally Blonde movie franchise producer Marc Platt, ensuring continuity and authenticity in the adaptation process. The collaboration between Hello Sunshine, Fake Empire, and Amazon MGM Studios is poised to deliver a fresh take on the beloved story.
But that’s not all; sources suggest that Hello Sunshine and Amazon are also exploring the possibility of a second spinoff series, although details remain scarce at this early stage.
This move to bring Legally Blonde to television comes as no surprise. Following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, the iconic film was among a select few identified for potential adaptation into TV series or films. Witherspoon’s involvement adds further weight to the project, given her integral role in the original film’s success.
The first Legally Blonde film, released in 2001 and based on the novel by Amanda Brown, quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Witherspoon’s portrayal of Harvard Law student Elle Woods catapulted her to superstardom and cemented the film’s place in pop culture history. Subsequent sequels and spinoffs, including Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde and Legally Blondes, have kept the franchise alive and thriving over the years.
Now, with the TV spinoff series in the works, fans can look forward to diving back into the world of Legally Blonde in an exciting new format. And with Witherspoon at the helm, the future of Elle Woods and her adventures promises to be brighter and more vibrant than ever before.
