Legendary Composer Ilaiyaraaja’s Biopic Unveiled by Dhanush

A highly anticipated event unfolded on Wednesday as the first poster for Dhanush’s upcoming film, centered around the life of the renowned music composer Ilaiyaraaja, was officially launched. Dhanush, a recipient of the National Award, takes the lead in this ambitious project. The movie, titled “Ilaiyaraaja,” will be directed by Arun Matheswaran, known for his recent collaboration with Dhanush on “Captain Miller.”

Dhanush took to his social media platforms to share the poster, expressing his gratitude with the caption, “Honoured @ilaiyaraaja sir.” The unveiling ceremony, attended by esteemed personalities including actor Kamal Haasan alongside Dhanush and the revered music composer himself, was captured in a video shared by film trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Taran described the event as a grand announcement, emphasizing the anticipation surrounding the biopic of the music maestro Ilaiyaraaja.

The film will delve into the life and legacy of one of India’s most prolific music composers, Ilaiyaraaja. With a career spanning five decades, Ilaiyaraaja has composed over seven thousand songs for more than a thousand films and has delivered over 20,000 live performances worldwide. His contributions to music earned him prestigious accolades, including the Padma Bhushan in 2010 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2018.

“Ilaiyaraaja” is a collaborative effort involving Mercuri Movies, PK Prime Production, Connekkt Media, and participants from the Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil industries. The production team, consisting of Sriram Bakthisaran, C K Padma Kumar, Varun Mathur, Ilamparithy Gajendran, and Saurabh Mishra, is poised to bring this cinematic tribute to fruition. Renowned photographer Nirav Shah will serve as the film’s director of photography.

Apart from his role in “Ilaiyaraaja,” Dhanush is set to captivate audiences with his appearances in other upcoming projects. These include “Kubera,” directed by Sekhar Kammula and featuring a stellar cast including Jim Sarbh, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nagarjuna, as well as “Raayan,” a film he has both written and directed, promising a diverse cinematic journey for the acclaimed actor.
