Clean Slate Filmz Faces Transition: Departure from Netflix Sparks Uncertainty

Since its inception in 2013, Clean Slate Filmz, led by Karnesh Ssharma and Anushka Sharma, has carved a niche for itself in the realm of storytelling. Noteworthy collaborations with Netflix India yielded hits such as ‘Bulbbul’ and ‘Qala.’ The recent release of ‘Kohrra’ further cemented their success. However, Anushka’s exit from the studio has marked a significant shift, leaving Karnesh at the helm. Moreover, the recent termination of their partnership with the OTT giant signifies a pivotal moment for the production house.

While the precise reasons behind the partnership’s dissolution remain undisclosed, speculations abound regarding creative disparities and financial considerations. As reported by Peeping Moon, this separation has cast a shadow of uncertainty over completed projects like Anushka Sharma’s ‘Chakda Xpress,’ a biopic chronicling the life of cricketer Jhulan Goswami, and ‘Afghaani Snow,’ featuring Vijay Varma and Triptii Dimri. Despite wrapping up production, the fate of these films hangs precariously, with their release hanging in the balance. Clean Slate Filmz is reportedly contemplating repurchasing these films from the OTT platform to explore alternative distribution avenues.

The absence of ‘Chakda Xpress’ and ‘Afghaani Snow’ from OTT’s recent Indian content lineup announcement has raised eyebrows, further exacerbated by the discovery of a broken link to the placeholder card for the Anushka Sharma film and reports of halted post-production for ‘Afghaani Snow.’

This situation echoes past occurrences, such as the withdrawal of support for post-production of Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘Bob Biswas’ and Abbas Mustan’s ‘Penthouse’ by Netflix. While ‘Bob Biswas’ eventually found a release on Zee5, ‘Penthouse’ remains in limbo, awaiting further developments.
