“Oscar-Winning Historical Drama ‘The Zone of Interest’ to Stream on Max

The 2023 historical drama film ‘The Zone of Interest’ will be available to stream on Max starting April 5, 2024. The movie, which recently won the best international feature and best sound at the Oscars, is currently available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, the movie is loosely based on the 2014 namesake novel by Martin Amis, which is itself based partially on real events. The plot of the movie revolves around the commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife, Hedwig, who seek to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the concentration camp.
During his acceptance speech at the Oscars, Jonathan Glazer said,
“All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say look what they did then, but rather look what we do now. Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst. It’s shaped all of our past and present. Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people. Whether the victims of October — whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?”
The movie first premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2023, and received five nominations at the Oscars. The cast includes Christian Friedel, Sandra Hüller, Johann Karthaus, Luis Noah Witte, and Nele Ahrensmeier, among others.
