Austin Butler Draws Inspiration from Gary Oldman and Heath Ledger for Role in Dune 2

In the forthcoming Dune: Part Two, Austin Butler portrays the menacing Feyd-Rautha, and his portrayal is not without inspiration. Delving into the depths of his craft, Butler recently shared with NME the influential figures who guided his approach to the role, citing the versatile careers of Gary Oldman and Heath Ledger.

“I’ve always found inspiration in the diverse roles of Gary Oldman,” Butler revealed. “Whether it’s his compelling performances in Léon: The Professional, True Romance, or The Fifth Element.”

In Denis Villeneuve’s continuation of the Dune saga, Butler’s character, Feyd-Rautha, stands as the nefarious nephew and heir to Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, played by Stellan Skarsgard. With a distinct appearance—eyebrowless, black-toothed, and bald—Butler found liberation in embodying this villainous persona, remarking to The Evening Standard, “It was freeing because you’re not trying to be anything else.”

Transitioning from his role as the iconic Elvis Presley, where hair played a pivotal part, Butler embraced the bald look for Dune: Part Two, finding solace in shedding the weight of hair-centric character portrayal.

The narrative of Dune: Part Two unfolds as Paul Atreides, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, allies with Chani, played by Zendaya, and the Fremen in his quest for vengeance against those who orchestrated his family’s downfall.

Joining an ensemble cast that includes Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, and Dave Bautista, Dune: Part Two continues to captivate audiences with its grandeur and scale, currently mesmerizing audiences in theaters.
