Amazon MGM Studios has inked a fresh multi-year deal with Patrick McKay and JD Payne, the masterminds behind the hit series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” This move hints at a promising trajectory for the fantasy epic.

Under the terms of the agreement, McKay and Payne will helm their own production company, 10:40 PM Productions, alongside their duties as showrunners. Their initial three-year contract signifies a deepening commitment to the saga’s future.

The duo’s collaboration birthed the Emmy-nominated first season of “The Rings of Power,” which captivated audiences upon its premiere in 2022. Garnering critical acclaim and immense viewership, it quickly ascended to the summit of Amazon’s original programming, consistently ranking in Nielsen’s Top 4 streaming charts.

With production wrapped for the eagerly awaited second season, set for release later this year, attention turns to future installments. While the official green light for a third season is pending, McKay and Payne are already plotting the course for upcoming narratives.

Exciting developments extend beyond storytelling, as Amazon plans to relocate the series’ production hub from Bray Studios to the state-of-the-art facilities at Shepperton Studios in the U.K.

Reflecting on the journey thus far, Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed unwavering confidence in McKay and Payne’s creative prowess. He lauded the monumental success of the series’ debut season and eagerly anticipates the unfolding saga in subsequent seasons.
