Actor Vidya Balan Files Complaint Over Fake Instagram Account Scam

Celebrated Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has lodged a formal complaint with the Mumbai Police regarding an elaborate scam involving a counterfeit Instagram account created under her name. The complaint alleges that an unidentified individual utilized the fraudulent account to solicit money from unsuspecting users.

According to Mumbai police officials, the perpetrator behind the fake Instagram handle also purportedly posed as Balan on various online platforms, enticing individuals with promises of employment opportunities. Consequently, Khar Police has initiated legal proceedings under Section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act, following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR).

Balan, renowned for her captivating performances and substantial online following, regularly engages her audience through entertaining videos and reels. However, the misuse of her identity to swindle money has presented her with significant challenges. Authorities revealed that the perpetrator went as far as creating a Gmail account identical to Balan’s, further complicating the investigation.

Reports suggest that the impostor targeted Bollywood personalities, leveraging Balan’s name to solicit funds under false pretenses of job offers. Prompted by the fraudulent activities, Balan promptly notified the Mumbai Police, triggering an investigative response culminating in the FIR against the unidentified individual.

This incident underscores the vulnerability of public figures to online exploitation and identity theft. Balan, who rose to fame with her iconic portrayal of Manjulika in the cult classic “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” (2007), has recently been welcomed back to the franchise by actor Kartik Aaryan, set to lead the upcoming installment. Aaryan expressed his excitement over Balan’s return in an Instagram post, signaling the anticipation surrounding the film’s release.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities aim to uncover the full extent of the scam while emphasizing the importance of safeguarding against cyber fraud in the digital age.
