Will Smith to Star in Action Thriller “Sugar Bandits”

Will Smith is set to take the lead in the upcoming high-energy action film “Sugar Bandits,” adding another exciting project to his repertoire. The movie, based on Chuck Hogan’s book “Devils in Exile,” revolves around an Iraq War veteran who joins forces with fellow veterans to combat the drug trade in Boston. Hogan, known for his work on “The Town” and “The Strain,” has crafted the screenplay for this thrilling venture.

Handling worldwide distribution rights, AGC International and CAA Media Finance are poised to present the film to potential buyers at the upcoming EFM. Smith, along with Jon Mone, will produce through Westbrook Studios, with Ryan Shimazaki overseeing the production. AGC Studios, fully financing the project, will see Stuart Ford taking on a producing role, alongside Richard Abate of 3 Arts Entertainment.

This latest endeavor adds to Smith’s recent projects, including “Emancipation,” which made headlines with a record-breaking deal but didn’t meet expectations upon release. Additionally, Smith is involved in the production of the fourth “Bad Boys” film and an upcoming sequel to the zombie hit “I Am Legend,” featuring Michael B. Jordan. Notably, “Sugar Bandits” has been in development since 2013 under Universal’s purview.

Smith is represented by CAA, while Hogan’s interests are managed by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment. The European Film Market, coinciding with the Berlin Film Festival, commences on February 15, with the world premiere of “Small Things Like These,” starring Cillian Murphy.
